Mary Amore, Lee’s much beloved maternal grandmother, was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States at the height of the Great Depression.  Lee will
never forget her grandmother’s stories of the struggle and loss the family endured. Her grandmother was a member of the International Ladies' Garment
Workers' Union (ILGWU) for more than thirty years.  It was union wages that paid for Lee’s Harvard education.  Lee is a strong supporter of unions because of
the prominent role the union played in her family and in her life.
