Progress in our state! Finally! I applaud Mayor Boughton and the tough
decision by the Danbury Common Council, for the good of all, to allow
specially trained police officers to enforce immigration. I would work to
include the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE)
throughout Fairfield County.
Also, illegal immigrants must immediately apply for a tax payer
identification, tax payer restitution, and a background check to ensure we are
not harbouring fugitives from other countries. Most illegals make more
hourly than many Americans (waitresses, retail employees, teacher aids and
substitute teachers) but the Americans have to pay taxes.

When my mother attended school in the 1940s there weren't any bilingual
education programs (see my biography). You HAD to learn English. She
became fully bilingual, without an accent, and she eventually earned a
masters degree. Bilingual education is supposed to be a two year transition
program but this now happens less and less. The child then reaches junior
high or high school and is not equipped to pass the necessary standardized
tests and so, the student drops out. Societally, we get a "dumbed down"
workforce.
No one is served by not encouraging and requiring that immigrants
learn to speak English.
